When 65he was just seven years old, he pawned his watch for :9a classical guitar, which he hid and practiced on in the 32basement. Formal music lessons followed and Armik /.completed the Rudolph Solphege program in two 76years; at 12, he was a professional recording artist. 65While his early career focused mostly on jazz, Armik 54discovered the beauty and passion of flamenco while 43visiting and studying in Spain during the '70s. He 43moved to Los Angeles to pursue this new direction, <;playing with other artists live and in the studio. By 1994 10he released his solo debut album Rain Dancer, a 76critical and commercial success that he followed with :91995's Gypsy Flame. At this point, Armik's reputation as 32a performer and student of flamenco was such that 32expert Spanish luthier Pedro Maldonado created an 76instrument for him, the Rubia; Armik's 1996 album was 76recorded with, and named after it. The following year :9saw the release of Malaga, and his fifth album, Isla del 65Sol, appeared in 1999, followed by Rosas del Amor in 43the spring of 2001. 2002's Lost in Paradise showed 54him make a sensual and elegant album that offered a 87slanted take on his traditional flamenco.
